As you all know, last week was Maths Week all over Ireland! As always, this was a huge event here in Scoil Carmel and we took part in many cool maths activities during this week, all aimed at encouraging us to use our ‘maths eyes’!
On Thursday, we took part in Scoil Carmel’s ‘Tallest Tower’ competition, building a tower using almost 300 workbooks, copybooks and readers! Our tower was taller than many of our classmates…….and took lots of our classmates to tidy up after it collapsed!!
Later on Thursday, we joined with Ms. Coleman’s class and went on a Maths Trail outside in Scoil Carmel’s car park! This trail had two elements (sensory and Maths), and encouraged us to use both our senses and our Maths eyes! Both trails involved predicting, and then recording. We worked in pairs, using clipboards, and had great fun!
On Friday, we joined with Miss Fitzmaurice’s Junior Infants to teach them about 2D shape! We helped them to make shape pictures using the shapes, and then used our Gaeilge to play ‘Oíche Shamhna’ Bingo too!
What a super week! Check out our photos! Well done to all!
